Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer is also known as bowel cancer or colon cancer. Colon cancer occurs when cancerous cells or tumours develop in the colon or rectum (inside large intestine). Most cases of colon cancer occur in developed countries.

The symptoms of colon cancer include change in bowel habits (diarrhoea, increasing constipation, higher need for laxatives etc.), blood in stools, abdominal or pain in anal region, feeling like you need to have bowel movements which persist after passing stool, weakness and decrease in appetite, weight-loss etc.

Colon Cancer Screening

Early diagnosis is the key to battling colon cancer. Any rectal bleeding is commonly associated with haemorrhoids or fissures but it can also be a sign of colorectal cancer. It is better to get colorectal cancer treatment at the earliest. This doesn’t mean that the patient has to immediately begin any form of colon cancer surgery, instead you can undergo screening.

Screening is a process by which the doctor will conduct a screening of the intestine area and inform the patient if there are any possible cancerous polyps. This will help the patient get ahead of the cancer and prevent it from spreading to other parts of their intestine. Regular screening is recommended to avoid getting colon cancer.
